Dynamic Programming

Lets go Dynamic! Python is a remarkably powerful dynamic programming language that is used in a wide variety of application domains. Students will learn syntax based programming and perform Game design, with strong and intuitive expression of procedural code. The pride of "creating" technology is the highlight of this course. As students create projects using Python, they learn to work in a team setting and work collaboratively and reason systematically. This program helps students develop meaningful 21st century skills and prepares them to take on advanced areas of Technology with greater levels of confidence and understanding.

Program Summary
Due to its power, simplicity, and complete object model, Python has become the scripting language of choice for many large organizations, including Google, Yahoo, and IBM. In this course students learn to use Python 3 to create well-designed gaming and real-world applications using scripts. This course covers the basics of the language syntax and usage, as well as advanced features such as objects, generators, and exceptions. Students will be guided using example real-world projects. Students also learn exception-based error handling and work with high level dynamic data types. They will go through development process and use formal debuggers to identify issues, troubleshoot problems. At the end of these 3 months, students are equiped to design, code, debug and review peer student's code. This course provides the foundation of object oriented concepts that are essential for learning and using advanced programming languages such as Java.
Through interactive projects, personal creations, and step-by-step clear instructions, this program sets the stage for a life-long understanding of everything technology. This program is designed to develop logical thinking and reasoning abilities while also helping students to apply mathematical and scientific concepts to solve real-life problems creatively. Who should join this program ?
This course has no prerequisites. The curriculum for this program is customized for learners ages 9-18 and delivered in small student groups. Learn with individually tailored lessons and make every idea of yours (big or small) count! Students will be placed in age appropriate sessions.

This course is conducted at our facility - 4260 Westbrook Drive, Suite 109, Aurora IL (near Fox valley Mall) as an evening / weekend program and/or as an after-school program around various schools in the Chicago-land area. Please see schedule below for more details.

Technology is pervasive in almost every aspect of daily life, and as the workplace changes, STEM knowledge and skills grow in importance for a variety of workers beyond STEM careers. Studies have found that demand for STEM-capable workers have increased in traditionally non-STEM fields due to diffusion of technology across industries and occupations. Improving access to quality STEM education will strengthen the caliber of the student even if they want to pursue a non-STEM career. STEM knowledge extends beyond a career, it is a knowlege for life.

My son/daughter work their iPhone, iPad with ease, don't they already know Technology?
While students work their iPhone, iPad, iPod and Games apps easily, the key to their success is to understand the inner workings of the technology involved in creating those apps and games. At HoneZone, they will learn to "create" those games and apps, rather than just "use" them. It is the practical application of those ideas and the creative thinking required to solve real-world problems, that forms the basis of a truly engaging learning experience.

What is STEM?
The acronym STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.

Why STEM?
According to the U.S. Bureau of Statistics, in the next five years, STEM jobs are projected to grow twice as quickly as jobs in other fields. While all jobs are expected to grow by 10.4%, STEM jobs are expected to increase by 21.4%. Similarly, 80% of jobs in the next decade will require technical skills. We need to prepare our students to be able to compete in a knowledge-based global economy. Students need 21st Century skills of adaptability, complex communication, social skills, non-routine problem solving, self-management, self-development, and systems thinking. Our students will be called upon to be innovative and creative problem solvers, designers, developers, and inventors.

Why STEM early?
Consider this statistics from Nation center for education statistics: Of the 3.8 million 9th graders in the US, only 233,000 end up choosing a STEM degree in college (National Center for Education Statistics). That means only six STEM graduates out of every 100 9th graders. While all jobs are expected to grow by 10.4%, STEM jobs are expected to increase by 21.4%. Similarly, 80% of jobs in the next decade will require technology skills.
