Program Summary

* 3-months/12-weeks of Advanced programming using Scratch:

Using this easy-to-learn programming language, students will learn fundamentals of Programming, iteration, sequencing, events, conditional statements, variables, arrays, event handling, Random numbers, Boolean logic. Students will learn and complete several fun advanced animation projects using all the programming concepts learned. At the end of the 3 months, they will be ready to take on more structured programming language to perform Game design. Please see schedule below for more details.

* 3-months/12-weeks of Python programming

Python is a remarkably powerful dynamic programming language that is used in a wide variety of application domains. Students will learn syntax based programming and perform Game design, with strong and intuitive expression of procedural code. Students also learn exception-based error handling and work with high level dynamic data types. They will go through development process and use formal debuggers to identify issues, troubleshoot problems. At the end of these 3 months, students are now designing, writing code, debugging code and reviewing others' code. Please see schedule below for more details.

* 3-months/12-weeks of Java OO programming

With a solid background in Programming, Students now learn Object oriented development using Java. They understand OO concepts such as Inheritance, Polymorphism and understand their practical uses. They learn and become comfortable with entire syntax stack of Java language and work with Java platform using Java Development Kit (JDK) and Eclipse IDE solving real-world application problems. This program sets the stage for AP - Computer Science pursuits and gets them prepared for 21st Century careers. Please see schedule below for more details.

* 3-months/12-weeks of Web PHP programming

With a solid background in Object oriented design, Students embark on building Dynamic websites. They learn HTML, Javascript, CSS, PHP and Databases. They also understand how websites are deployed. They work with Web Servers to create real-world Websites that are Dynamic, designed for great user interaction and retrieve data from databases! Who should join this program?

Who should join this program?
The curriculum for this program is customized for learners ages 8-18 and delivered in small student groups. Learn with individually tailored lessons and make every idea of yours (big or small) count! Students will be placed in age appropriate sessions.

Why Dream your 21st century program?
This program is designed to embark students on their 21st century career dream. Students need opportunities to develop 21st century skills for future, but currently there is a big disconnect between the innovative jobs being created and the availability of skilled workforce. To bridge that gap, students require high levels of technology proficiency to ensure broader, more meaningful, and increasingly innovative technology education for middle and high school students. These heightened levels of technology proficiency so critical in the Digital Age require higher levels of 21st century education.

Tuition
Course fee is as follows: Advanced Scratch - $349, Python - $449, Java OO - $499, Web-PHP - $499. One time registration fee of $25.00 applies.

Technology is pervasive in almost every aspect of daily life, and as the workplace changes, STEM knowledge and skills grow in importance for a variety of workers beyond STEM careers. Studies have found that demand for STEM-capable workers have increased in traditionally non-STEM fields due to diffusion of technology across industries and occupations. Improving access to quality STEM education will strengthen the caliber of the student even if they want to pursue a non-STEM career. STEM knowledge extends beyond a career, it is a knowlege for life.

What is STEM?
The acronym STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.

Why STEM?
According to the U.S. Bureau of Statistics, in the next five years, STEM jobs are projected to grow twice as quickly as jobs in other fields. While all jobs are expected to grow by 10.4%, STEM jobs are expected to increase by 21.4%. Similarly, 80% of jobs in the next decade will require technical skills. We need to prepare our students to be able to compete in a knowledge-based global economy. Students need 21st Century skills of adaptability, complex communication, social skills, non-routine problem solving, self-management, self-development, and systems thinking. Our students will be called upon to be innovative and creative problem solvers, designers, developers, and inventors.

Why STEM early?
Consider this statistics from Nation center for education statistics: Of the 3.8 million 9th graders in the US, only 233,000 end up choosing a STEM degree in college (National Center for Education Statistics). That means only six STEM graduates out of every 100 9th graders. While all jobs are expected to grow by 10.4%, STEM jobs are expected to increase by 21.4%.
